Who needs a travel agent anymore?
Less than we do, apparently. Only eight years ago, there were 124030 travel agencies in the United States, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. By 2006, that number had dropped by about 30 percent, to 87600 agents.
The government of the outlook for the business is really depressing. It projects “little or no growth” for travel professionals over the next eight years, as part of the market gains made by online giants such as Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity are held in check by a small bump on demand for travel expert advice.
